- The Christopher Isherwood Love Story
Christopher Isherwood, the author of Berlin Stories (later turned into Cabaret) and other novels (see the Tom Ford post below), was 48 when he met the 16 year old Bachardy. Their relationship lasted over 30 years ’til Isherwood’s death at 81. The relationship was the subject of a well received documentary several years ago. Daddyhunt celebrates this cross-generational love story in a series of web interviews with Bachardy:
- The Playboy Interview: Truman Capote 1969
There was a point in Truman Capote’s career when he became more interesting as an interview subject than as a writer.
- James Hannaham: The Mary Interview
God Says No tells the tale of Gary Gray, an over-weight, fervently-Christian, unmistakably-homosexual, black man from Charleston, NC. In his quest to rid himself of the “sin” of homosexuality, Gray hurtles through a 1980’s era southern landscape looking for solace, redemption and the occasional hot piece of trade.
- Literary Divas: The results are in!
Well it turns out Diana Ross, Bette Milder, Gladys Knight, Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, Maria Callas and Madonna are not the only female deities homosexuals worship.
Mary’s fans also have a vast array of literary divas that they call their own.
- Quinton Crisp
After the publication of his book, The Naked Civil Servant, in 1968 QUENTIN CRISP was approached by documentary maker Denis Mitchell to be the subject of a short film in which he was to talk about his life and voice his opinions – which he did, brilliantly.
- Poets We Love: Frank O’Hara
One of my biggest literary crushes has to be the poet/art critic Frank O’Hara. O’Hara was at the epicenter of the downtown poetry scene known as the New York School*(which included poets like John Ashbery and Kenneth Koch).
- E. Lynn Harris: 1955-2009
In a perfect world I would never have to write this letter. In a perfect world there wouldn’t be a need for it. In a perfect world this pain…absent. In a perfect world we would accept people for who and what they are. No strings, complete honesty, total acceptance, no matter what. In this imperfect world we live in, there is no longer dignity in telling the truth.
- An Ode to Essex Hemphill
My favorite gay/queer themed book is Ceremonies (prose and poetry) by Essex Hemphill.
